Castle Hof De Bist or Hof van Guyot

Supposedly "Hof De Bist" after the toponym of the area, modo "Hof van Guyot" after the founder. In a highly wooded landscape park with central lawn, neoclassical castle, with a farm on the street and an eight-sided pavilion to the southeast. Founded in 1873 by emiel E. Guyot (mayor from 1884 to 1894). Domain (19.5 hectares) purchased by the municipality in 1968 and transformed into a public park with bronze statue "The Great Sea" by J. Peters; castle in use from 1972 as "Kunstcentrum De Bist". Rectangular castle of five and four bays and two storeys under hipped roof (slates). Plastered and painted brick building on bluestone plinth and high basement with rectangular barred basement windows. Horizontally lined by façade moldings and classic entablature. Corner and middle travee accentuated by checkered pilasters. Shuttered rectangular windows on leak thresholds; on southwestern façade in belted frame, leak thresholds on bobbins. On north-east façade large staircase and wrought iron balustrade; central rectangular door in belted bluestone frame between sunken pilasters, under cornice on volute consoles. Higher up door window in similar frame. Interior adapted as an exhibition space.
