Tegelarestraat no. 4. 19th-century farmhouse with detached components under gable roofs (mechanical tiles) arranged U-shaped around a grazed yard. Site already indicated as such on the Ferraris map (1770-1778) and the Atlas der Buurtwegen (1846), but with a different arrangement. The farmhouse and the stables are already indicated as such on the Atlas der Buurtwegen. The land register records an enlargement of the house in 1865, by Vandewalle August, councillor in Ghent. To the east of the yard, painted farmhouse, possibly with an older 18th-century core, raised higher at the rear in the 19th century and extended. Six bays under gable roof (blue mechanical tiles), serrated eaves, limping at the rear. Yard façade with rectangular wall openings. Preserved white-painted woodwork with cross division and large rod division, renewed shutters. To the left and right, against the side walls, there are stalls under a lower gable roof. Rear façade (raised to one and a half storeys), with preserved upstairs bay with shuttered window frame construction. Perpendicular connecting bakehouse with lower (angled) oven house. To the south of the yard, painted stables, as a volume already indicated as such on the Ferraris map (1770-1778) and the Atlas der Buurtwegen (1846). Serrated eaves, rectangular and arched wall openings. To the west of the yard, a transverse barn with incorporated double carriage house, not yet indicated on the Atlas (1846) and the mutation sketch (1865) and therefore dating from the second half of the 19th century. Possibly originally with fully planked longitudinal façade(s). Partly petrified on the yard side. Preserved red-painted planking under the eaves (partly preserved serrated moulding). Green painted wooden gates, near the wagon house with fencing. LAND REGISTRY ARCHIVES WEST FLANDERS, 207: Mutation sketches, Torhout, 1865/54.
