Church of Borsbeek

The church of Borsbeek was built in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. The tower of this church has been the victim of arson, bell robbery and discussions about who was responsible for the reconstruction over the centuries.

At the beginning of WWI, the tower was dynamited by the Belgian engineers, who considered the tower too dangerous as a lookout for the German troops. During the interwar period the spire was restored, but in 1941 it was demolished by the Germans.

Just before the turn of the century, the St. James Parish Church received a new spire. In four phases, the church has since been further restored. The result is stunning, both on the outside and inside.

During the final phase of the restoration, which was just completed, the inside of the church was thoroughly tackled. The confessional, pulpit and carvings were in bad shape.
