St. Peter's Church

The Sint-Pietersbandenkerk is a church building in the Belgian borough of Uitbergen and named after Sint-Pietersbanden, a festival that commemorates the liberation of Peter.

The devotion to Peter indicates that this house of worship has an ancient history of which little is known. Originally the church served both Uitbergen and Overmere which formed one parish. The right of patronage first belonged to the Saint Bavo Abbey and later to the diocese of Ghent. The celebration tower in early Gothic style and is the oldest part of the church. The core probably rises to the 11th or 12th century. The chancel with two bays was built in sandstone. It is broken by two-light windows with three-lobe tracing.
