Pouhon Marsh

The Fagne du Pouhon is located in the High Ardennes, on the Tailles Plateau, south of the village of Odeigne. Although composed of very wet and peaty soils, the site was largely afforested, but the success of these plantations is very relative. In several places, the spruces have indeed declined, which has allowed the preservation of fragments of transition peat bogs, wet heaths, sedge beds, and carex beds. Until the early 2000s, the islets still housed remarkable flora including several rare or threatened species, including two species of clubmosses: the clubmoss with a club (Lycopodium clavatum) and especially the very rare firmoss (Huperzia selago). Over the last decade, the site has been largely cleared of spruces as part of a Life project, and many ponds have been created, notably by blocking drains. These deforestation operations have revealed vast peat areas and had a spectacular effect on the populations of odonates.

Public access: The Fagne du Pouhon is crossed by several paths, including a long-distance hiking trail.
