Chapel Lorette

In 1676 Christophe De le Tenre, pastor of the Parish of St. Martin, had this chapel built to alleviate the Sunday obligation for the faithful who lived far away.

Although the year of construction would suggest baroque style features, a simple late Gothic style was still used. The chapel, beautifully situated on the south flank of the Muziekberg, consists of a rectangular room with a small choir at the back against which a sacristy leans. It is built in brick, on a partly sandstone plinth, has short pointed arch windows in the side walls and a strongly restored basket arch portal in the west façade. A small roof rider adorns the end of the slate-covered gable roof of the beech.
