This imposing bald cypress was chosen by the jury as a laureate for the province of East Flanders as part of the Tree of the Year 2022 competition. The tree adorns the courtyard of the Beaucarne House, the 18th-century home of the Beaucarne family in Ename. The family was passionate about collecting exotic plants, which can still be admired today in the historic garden that belongs to the house.
