Water sports Ostend Spuikom (WOS)

In 1969, a few Snipe and 470 sailors founded the first Ostend sailing club specifically for small sailing on the Kalkaert, between Ostend and Middelkerke . After a few years on the small Kalkaert, a better location was sought and the association moved to the 80-hectare Spuikom.

From 1973 there was sailing on "the pit" and a year later the city of Ostend built the current clubhouse on the Vicognedijk.

With 80ha, the Spuikom offers excellent water sports opportunities. Over the years, the sluice basin became less deep, but future plans with a higher water level guarantee another number of years of sailing pleasure.

Now say for yourself, where better to train than in Ostend. In good weather you can go to the sea.

And when the weather gods bring less favorable weather, you can go to the Spuikom, the second largest inland waterway in Belgium . In winter a few degrees warmer than inland and due to the salt water still ice-free when sailing is not possible in other places.
