De Hoge Rielen is a youth recreation center of 230 hectares in Kasterlee that is owned by the Flemish Community and managed by the non-profit organization ADJ on its behalf. Various groups can be accommodated simultaneously in 17 pavilions and on the camping grounds.
On this old military site, there are many sheds that served as ammunition storage. Many of them have since been rebuilt into educational rooms or sleeping pavilions. In 1999, the then Flemish architect Bob Van Reeth developed a long-term vision for the domain. Subsequently, Secchi & Vigano was selected from various design firms to develop a master plan. This master plan is currently being implemented.
