Evangelical Middle School Schiers

The Evangelical Secondary School Schiers is a gymnasium in Schiers that leads to the Matura and thus to general eligibility for admission to Swiss universities. The school's offerings include: short and long-term gymnasium with bilingual Matura in German/English, music gymnasium, specialized secondary school with specialized Matura, preparatory course for the pedagogical university.

The school was founded in 1837 as a teacher training seminar. Today, it is one of six private secondary schools in the canton of Graubünden, alongside the Graubünden Cantonal School. Over time, the school profile was expanded to include university entrance qualifications, and the name was changed to Evangelical Educational Institution in 1959 by Director Hans Peter Jaeger to the name in use today. In addition to students from the local area, for whom the school serves the function of a public school with cantonal support, the school has operated a boarding school since its founding, attended by students from other cantons and abroad. In 2015, the boarding school was closed due to a lack of boarding students. However, the school has since been providing host families and renting apartments for shared living arrangements.
