The municipality is located in the Landshut region directly on the Inn, which also forms the state border with Austria. From the wide river valley in the south, it transitions to tertiary, typically Lower Bavarian hilly land with forests, meadows, and agricultural estates to the north. Ering is located directly on the B 12 and the future A 94, about 24 km southeast of the district town of Pfarrkirchen, 11 km northeast of Simbach, 18 km southwest of Pocking, and 43 km from Passau and 38 km from Burghausen.
