The clock in question is actually a traffic light. And not just any traffic light, but the first of its kind in Europe. From 1924 to 1934, the light adorned the busy Potsdamer Platz. Only in the first year did it also regulate traffic. It soon became clear that the lights were hard to see from the adjacent streets. Therefore, other lights were placed alongside it. As you can see, the lights in the early days were not positioned one above the other, but side by side. The column that stands there now is a replica of the original model from 1924.
