The German Wine Gate or Deutsches Weintor in Schweigen-Rechtenbach near the French border marks the start of the Weinstrasse. Built in 1936, the gate is an imposing ceremonial gatehouse made of sandstone. The German Wine Route or Wine Road or Deutsche Weinstraße is the oldest of Germany's tourist wine routes.
