Laase is a district of the municipality of Langendorf in the district of Lüchow-Dannenberg in Lower Saxony. On July 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality, which also included the localities of Grippel and Pretzetze, was incorporated into the municipality of Langendorf. The locality is located on the western bank of the Elbe River. In 2008, the cultivation of genetically modified corn by the seed company Monsanto led to strong protests. Since 2009, no genetically modified plants have been cultivated in Laase and in the entire municipality of Langendorf. The road through the locality has regularly been the site of transports to the nuclear waste storage facility in Gorleben since 1995.
