The Breitenau Monastery was a Benedictine abbey located in the Breitenau area of the Guxhagen municipality near Kassel, in the then "Breiten Aue" at the confluence of the Eder and Fulda rivers. From the 19th century, the complex was used as a "reformatory," and from 1974 as a psychiatric hospital. During the time of National Socialism, the Breitenau concentration camp was housed in the monastery.
