Fläming-Gymnasium

The Fläming-Gymnasium is a public high school in Bad Belzig with 683 students and 45 teachers. The Fläming-Gymnasium, located in the Fläming natural landscape in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, is a high school with a long school tradition. The high school, located in historic buildings and located in the centre of Bad Belzig, offers a full-time school concept. Over the past 150 years, the school has continued to grow, expand and adapt to the state of the art technology. The Fläming-Gymnasium is a listed building and one of the architectural monuments of Bad Belzig.
The school was founded in 1868 as a civic school and the second school in the village, right next to St. Mary's Church. He was subordinate to the deacon of the city of Belzig and to the inspector of the higher education institutions of the church. Principal Hellmund took over the management of the school as the first principal. The city of Belzig, as patron, took over the school in 1904 and became a primary, elementary and civic school, so that it was now in the hands of the city and no longer the church. In 1908, the second school building was added. Little is known about the following years, except that boys and girls continued to receive separate education. At that time, the school was not yet a high school, but a primary and civic school.
