Huwenowsee

The Huwenowsee is a natural lake in the north of the state of Brandenburg. It lies in the area of the municipality of Sonnenberg in the district of Oberhavel. In terms of natural geography, the Huwenowsee belongs to the Gransee Plateau; historically, it is part of the Ruppiner Land.

The lake is a curved drain lake and, like various other lakes in the vicinity, has a west-east orientation. It extends between the district of Baumgarten in the west and the locality of Meseberg, belonging to the town of Gransee, in the east. Its length is about 2.3 km and the width varies between 140 and 260 m. It has an area of approximately 37 ha. The average water depth is between 5 and 10 m. The maximum depth is 16 m. The Huwenowsee is surrounded by deciduous forest, mainly consisting of beech trees, and has steeply rising shores. It drains to the west via the Niederfließ into the Wutzsee and from there into the river system of the Rhin.
