Hollwinkel Castle

Hollwinkel Castle is a castle built at the end of the 13th century in the village of Hedem in the town of Preußisch Oldendorf in the East Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke. It stands south of the Mittelland Canal in the Alswede lowlands.
It is assumed that Hollwinkel Castle was founded at the end of the 13th century by a Holle family who had been expelled from the Hildesheim region. Bishop Otto I of Minden is said to have given the later castle as a fiefdom. Since about the beginning of the 15th century, it has been owned by the von Schloen gen family. Gehle. Hollwinkel was besieged and shelled in 1459 as the western outpost of the Diocese of Minden in a feud with Osnabrück. However, attempts to take over the complex, which was still secured by three moats at the time, failed. Stone balls from this feud were found in the moat in 1871.
