The Lindgens leather factory, formerly called Ludwig Lindgens Leather Works, is one of the few remnants of the Mülheim leather industry, with an administrative building and heating house after the complete demolition of the factory buildings in 2020.
In 1861, the Lower Rhine mill owner Ludwig Lindgens, together with his wife Gertrud, née Rühl, founded the business. Gertrud Lindgens came from a well-known Mülheim tanning family. She brought the technical knowledge and managed the production until her death. They produced covers and other products for horse-drawn carriages and teams. In 1873, the company moved to its current location and had the brick building designed by the architect Franz Hagen. The water for production was drawn from the Ruhr using eight nearby wells as bank filtrate.
