Marienfeld Museum of Local History

The Heimatmuseum Marienfeld is a local history museum on the Schürmann farm in Marienfeld, North Rhine-Westphalia. In four exhibition rooms, mainly hand tools and agricultural equipment are shown, which were common for the area in the eastern Münsterland.
On 12 March 1999, 38 Marienfeld citizens founded the Heimatmuseum Marienfeld e.V. association. Three years earlier, intensive thought had already been given to the founding of a museum. In advance, the association's statutes were drawn up, exhibits were collected and members were recruited. Discussions with the Schürmann family resulted in the local history museum being housed in their unused farm buildings. The association took care of the financing of the project completely and carried out the renovations of the premises. On September 12, 1999, an open monument day, the museum was presented to the public. The local priest, Heinrich Siemann, inaugurated the museum. At the opening, the museum had around 200 exhibits and 2,500 visitors. Since its foundation, 320 guided tours have been carried out with over 10,000 visitors.
