The Frankfurt Oder Bridge is a bridge structure on the A 12 motorway and spans the Oder and the foreland near Frankfurt. The structure connects the German and Polish motorway networks. In the middle of the fairway of the Oder runs the state border between the two countries.
On September 22, 1934, the construction of the Reichsautobahn between Fürstenwalde/Spree and Frankfurt began. On 6 August 1937, the section was completed, and on 27 November it was passable all the way to Berlin. However, the construction of the Oder Bridge as a continuation of the line to Poznań did not take place before the outbreak of the Second World War. This did not happen until 1953, and by 1957 the foundation for two superstructures and the southern superstructure with a reinforced concrete arch bridge had been built. In the following decades, road traffic across the German-Polish border was handled on this road with one lane for each direction.
