Ossenberg Castle

Ossenberg Castle, also known as House Ossenberg, is a Lower Rhine castle complex in the Rheinberg district of Ossenberg. The listed building is located on the western bank of a dried-up old river arm. First mentioned in 1176, the then fortification came into the hands of the von Wevorden family during the 14th century, who remained lords of Ossenberg for three centuries. In the first quarter of the 18th century, Count Karl Ludwig Truchseß von Waldburg had the old structure demolished and the present-day castle built before selling the property in 1746 to Ludolf von der Rhoer. Through the marriage of an heiress, Ossenberg came into the possession of the Berghe von Trips family in 1857, whose descendants are still the owners today. They have operated a small hotel there since 2004.
