Marian Chapel at Goorbach (Three Country Lake)

The Mary Chapel of the former parish of St. Joseph (now: St. Anthony) will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. The consecration of the sacred building took place on June 2, 1990, by Pastor Franz-Josef Barlage. This will be commemorated on May 31 (Sunday), as Pastor Michael Vehlken made clear in a conversation with the WN. Planned are (starting at 9:30 AM) a procession from the church to the chapel and a service in the open air. Afterward, there will be a celebration at the chapel for the entire community. The construction of the Mary Chapel at Goorbach began in August 1989. The establishment of a wayside chapel for the parish in the outskirts had already been decided in 1984 during the 40th anniversary of the parish. Plans for the chapel construction date back to the 1950s, as Barlage wrote in a report for the citizen's book (edition 1989). The purpose of the chapel's construction was to create a place for inner reflection, contemplation, and prayer. In the context of an architectural competition, the design by diploma engineer Hans J. Hanke was selected in the spring of 1989. Work began in August 1989, and the foundation stone was laid on September 16. The construction was made possible by many sponsors and the voluntary efforts of many helpers.
