The new Rhine promenade has also transformed into a landmark of the Hanseatic city after its renovation. It is more than 1 km long and connects different sections from the riverside area to the residential mile, the gastronomic mile, and ultimately to the Rhine park. Guests enjoy the maritime flair while strolling along the promenade, from the numerous restaurants and cafés, or from the free beach baskets. The view sweeps over Father Rhine, the many ships, the Rhine meadows, or the sunset behind the longest hanging bridge in Germany, our Golden Gate of the Lower Rhine.
The gauge house at the beginning of the Rhine promenade is a small house with a large clock that displays the Emmerich gauge. The clock is so large that it can be read from passing ships. A text next to the house explains how the "clock" needs to be read. The Rhine park at the end of the promenade is the green lung of the city, featuring the war memorial, the house in the park with its art exhibitions, playgrounds, various sculptures, and the drop-off point for professional shipping.
