Bad Düben Spa Gardens

A beautification association and the city council met on September 13, 1846 and decided to transform an unused site north of the city into a park. Through the initiative of the two park founders, forestry inspector Friedrich Karl Theodor von Hartig and the court officer Julius Albert Rasch, as well as the generous donations of some citizens, the idea soon took shape. From 1849 onwards, the western part of the park was designed first, the planning and implementation of the eastern part of the park began a little later. This part of the complex served as a riding arena for the hussars, then followed new landscape design principles and differed from the main park.
The first park festival took place in 1861. In the following years, public life in the park increased sharply, so that soon the serving of drinks in the summer months was permitted. Every three years, a park festival took place, which established itself as a colorful folk festival.
