Buttlar Castle is a former water castle and a cultural monument in Buttlar in the Wartburgkreis in West Thuringia. It is the former ancestral seat of the noble family Buttlar as well as its branches Treusch von Buttlar, Treusch von Buttlar-Brandenfels, and Butler.
The current castle is already documented as a fortress in 1170, with some foundations of the castle dating from that time. Around 1170, the knights of Butiler acquired feudal property in the vicinity of the castle, which remained in their possession until around 1285. In 1456, Johannes von Buttlar reacquired the castle, which has been referred to as a palace since the 16th century. From around 1620 until the 1720s, it belonged to the von Kötschau family.
