The Brockeswalde Municipal Cemetery in Cuxhaven-Stickenbüttel, Sahlenburger Chaussee 15 at the Brockeswald Forest, is the central and largest cemetery in the city.
The buildings are included in the list of monuments on the outskirts of the city of Cuxhaven.
Around 1913, Cuxhaven acquired an area of 11 hectares south of the Brockeswald in order to create a municipal cemetery. It was not until 1926 that the site was raised by 1.5–2.5 m by sand and construction rubble as part of job creation measures. The park-like cemetery was laid out according to plans by the city planning officer Jung and based on the model of the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg and inaugurated in 1931.
The clinker-brick mourning hall from 1933 for 160 guests with a wide covered walkway is reached via a clinker driveway from Sahlenburger Chaussee. The cemetery administration is also housed here.
By 1931, the clinker crematorium had been built, which was replaced by a new facility in 1997. In 2003, the crematorium was leased to a Stade company.
