Kempten is a city in southern Germany located just 25 kilometers from the Austrian border. The city was named by the Greek Geographer Strabo in 50 BC as Kambodunum, a Celtic settlement. This is still the oldest found reference to a German city to this day and so Kempten can claim the title of oldest German city. Now, however, Kempten is a city whose center consists entirely of buildings in the Renaissance style typical of cities in the Alpine Mountains. The many sights that the city has are of course visited during this walk, including the Freitreppe, the Residenz Kempten, the Zumsteinhaus, ... and a full range of other eye-catchers.
