Colon Park

The Columbus Park, receives this name due to the statue of Christopher Columbus, sculpted in the nineteenth century by a French sculptor named Gilbert.
At the foot of the Admiral is the Taino queen Anacaona, a symbol precisely of what was the encounter of the Taino culture with the arrival of the Spanish discoverers.
In this park there are a couple of very nice terraces to have a drink, coffee or infusion in the sunsets. Right next to Parque Colón is one of the most popular streets in the Colonial Zone: Calle de El Conde. This pedestrian street is one of the most commercial in the city. There are all kinds of shops, especially souvenirs, art, discos and some restaurants.
During the colonial era of the fifteenth century, various buildings were carried out on the island of Hispaniola, which were the first colonial houses in the entire American continent. Within these residential constructions was created the Parque Colón, which was called by the name of Plaza Mayor de Santo Domingo, which dates from 1506, and throughout the passage of the years to the present day has undergone various modifications.
