The Royal College of the Company of Jesus is an imposing building that was commissioned by Queen Margaret of Austria, wife of Philip III, and which began construction in 1617, six years after her death.
Architect Juan Gómez de Mora was tasked with starting the project, but since the works lasted about 150 years, many left their mark on this College. Among them were the famous Andrés and Jerónimo García de Quiñones, present in many buildings of the era.
It served as a school and residence for Jesuits for a century, until they were expelled from Spain.
Since 1940, it has been the seat of the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
