Empordà Castle

Castell d'Empordà, formerly Llaneres, is a village in the municipality of La Bisbal d'Empordà in Baix Empordà, constituted as a municipality until 1972.
Located northeast of La Bisbal, the term drains the Daró river through the western area. A stretch of this river separated the old municipality of Castell d'Empordà from that of La Bisbal. To the north it is shaded by a mountain range, with a peak at Puig de les Forques, where the dividing line with Ullastret passes. To the west it borders Corçà; to the northwest, with Casavells; to the east, with Peratallada, and to the south, with La Bisbal. The municipality has two buildings of interest: the castle of Empordà and the hermitage of the Mare de Déu del Remei. The main population center is located around the castle, at the top of the hill of Marenys, and has a single street.
