The Comella House is a modernist building located in the Plaza Mayor of Vich, Barcelona. Built in 1896 by Cayetano Buigas, it is registered as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest in the Catalog of Catalan Cultural Heritage, with the code IPA-24636.[1]
In 1869, the demolition of the walls of Vich began, which paved the way for the expansion of the city.[1] One of these buildings was the Comella House, erected on the site that had occupied another ancient manor, the Farreras House, of the Barons of Savassona.[2] Josep Comella Colom commissioned it in 1896 from Cayetano Buigas, who was already a renowned architect after his participation in the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition, where he had built the Columbus Monument. The Comella family was a wealthy family of textile industrialists, owners of the Comella Soler company, whose factory in Vich was popularly known as Can Mastrot.[3]
