In the Carrera del Darro , which runs along the river of the same name, is the current Pont del Cadí.
This primitive bridge next to Bañuelo was built in 1055 next to the Mosque of Almanzora, now the parish church of Sant Gil and Santa Ana.
In the Nazarite era, it was renamed Puerta de Tableros and had an important strategic role for the city. It served both to reach the water supply on the right and left of the Darro and to connect the two parts of the city. Because of this dual function, this construction is often referred to as a gate bridge.
The original structure was made of limestone and today we only see a support and the beginning of the horseshoe arch that gave shape to this majestic work of hydraulic and defense engineering from the 11th century.
The support still visible is hexagonal in shape and was used in the construction of an internal staircase that gave access to the river water through a shuttered door , the brick-covered opening of which can still be seen in the survivor . bridge support
See Photo 2 for a simulation of the original bridge.
