The origins of the School of Art of Seville date back to the 17th century (1660), when Murillo, Valdés Leal and Zurbarán founded the School of the Three Noble Arts. This school is located in Seville, in the old upper rooms of the Casa de la Contratación or Casa de Lonja, now the Archives of the Indies.
In 1884 , the School of Arts and Crafts and Fine Arts was founded, located in what is now the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville, the former Monastery of La Merced, which had already been closed down. This is the moment of greatest prosperity for the Schools of Arts and Crafts and it is the time when the great artists are trained who gave luster to the history of Andalusian painting in the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century.
Currently, the Art Academy is registered in the Special Education Regime of the Andalusian Autonomous Community and its main function is focused on teaching the Training Cycles of Plastic Arts and Design, the Higher Artistic Studies of Design and also the Art Academy.
The school has facilities and workshops that combine the most traditional techniques with the latest technologies. From analogue development in the forge or carpentry to 3D printers, laser cutters in the latest digital editing software.
