Between the village of La Canourgue and the Causse de Sauveterre, the rocky wall known as "La Forteresse" is a cliff of limestone rock in shades of beige and grey, several dozen metres high. It is nicknamed because of its position on the slope of a deep valley and its imposing size. The most spectacular view of this rocky formation is from the D46 departmental road,
which winds its way up the hillside to reach the Causse de Sauveterre
