Transfer Museum

The Second World War ended in a school behind the station of Reims. In a side wing, the American Supreme Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower had his headquarters. Led by General Alfred Jodl, the German delegation arrived in the very early morning of May 7, 1945. At 2:41 AM, Jodl signed the document announcing the unconditional surrender of his country and ending the war in Europe: 'All fighting forces under German command will cease active operations at 11:01 PM Central European Time on May 8, 1945.' On the other side of the table, the document was signed for the Allies by American General Bedell Smith and for the Soviet Union by General Ivan Soesloparov. French General François Sevez was merely a witness, which immediately made it clear who would truly be in charge after the war.

There is still a school here. In the former headquarters, there is a small museum. Especially for the untouched war room, the place is worth a visit.
