Château de Lutzelhardt

Its construction is attributed to the Duke of Lorraine around the middle of the 12th century to protect the abbey of Sturzelbronn. In 1297, the Counts of Bitche, guarantors of the Lorraine border, received the castle as their property. In 1363, it became a Fleckenstein rear fiefdom and then fell into the hands of Wirich of Hohenbourg in 1450. In 1570, the castle was occupied by the troops of the Duke of Lorraine. The square was abandoned in 1606. For some, the Lutzelhardt was already in ruins, possibly destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525. Others argue that the castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War . Today, there are remains of the square-shaped keep, several dwellings, wells, cisterns...

Access: From Obersteinbach, take the D 3 in the direction of Sturzelbronn to the car park of the Lutzelhardt Forest House. From there, walk along the path marked with a yellow rectangle (GR 532). The walk to the castle takes about 20 minutes.
