After exploring Richelieu's "ideal city", a model of 17th century town planning, enjoy a walk along the river in the park with ancient chestnut trees that once was home to the Cardinal's castle. Built around 1630 by the architects of Louis XIII, it was the largest castle ever built in France before Versailles. Fragments of buildings, the orange grove and the wine storehouse are all that remains of this vast estate that was demolished in the 19th century.
