Between Chapeauroux and Alleyras, the gorges of the Allier present a particularly wild section, where the steep slopes are home to ravine forests and rocky areas.
The ecological interest of this site lies in the forests of ash and alder around the streams and springs, but also in the mesophilic pastures (adept at moderate temperatures), which shelter in particular: the white-legged crayfish, the marbled kite, the European otter, the booted eagle, the red kite, the great horned owl, ...

The gorges can be discovered: on board the Tourist Train of the Gorges de l'Allier or in one of the regular trains, on one of the hiking trails including the GR470, while practising one of the white water activities.
