A place of history: In the completely restored former Carmelite convent, the daily life of the slate quarry workers is revealed. Coffee swallowed on the kitchen table, next to the stove. The overalls put on and the bike ridden. Arriving at the mine, greeting Saint Barbara. Then going underground or staying on the surface to split, crab and cut. Pay collected at the café counter, a veritable hub of life in the town. "Legend has it that there were as many cafés as there were slate quarry holes. Exhibition space: Throughout 2024, our programming was enriched by a variety of exhibitions. These included inspiring works such as "Vie d'Artisme" in painting, Anne-Marie Lepage's artistic captures in photography, and Marianne Van Nunen's impressive sculptures. But there were also performances, such as that by the group Miss Enko and its "bar of silence". These events brought a diverse artistic dimension to our cultural venue. Looking ahead to 2025, exciting new exhibitions are planned to continue to amaze our audiences, encourage creativity and develop a taste for the arts. In addition, there's a warm and interesting tour of the history of the town and its slate quarries, as well as a library upstairs. For more information on upcoming events, visit the Fumay town website. The museum is open Monday to Friday, 2:30pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday, 10am to 12pm. Closed on Sunday. FREE ADMISSION. For groups, visits possible outside these hours ON RESERVATION. 03 24 41 10 34 or 03 52 76 01 80
