In the heart of a landscape of wooded hills dominating the valley at a short distance, Aubazine is a high place of monastic life in Corrèze and preserves buildings and remains of great quality. Houses and shops are grouped around a shady square, next to the old Cistercian abbey of the 12th century to which the town owes its existence. A few hundred metres from the village, the monks' canal bears witness to the know-how of the time: following the contours of the steep, rocky slope of the Coyroux valley, this canal, accessible on foot, stretches over 1500 metres.
