This Gothic-style chapel has left no record of its history. It's almost as if the intention was to make this a preserved, secluded place where people could pray in solitude, meditation and oblivion. A legend is attached to the place, that of a wandering statue, a statue of Sainte-Anne.
What is known, however, is that the present chapel was consecrated in 1707 by the Bishop of Metz, Monseigneur Ducambout de Coislin. The date 1838 inscribed on the façade corresponds to a restoration of the shell. In 1849, Monseigneur Dupont des Loges, Bishop of Metz, ordered that the church be used for the purposes authorized to date, i.e. a mass on Saint Anne?s Day and a mass for the deceased on the village?s feast day. The cemetery is dotted with fine examples of funerary art, including chapels, tombs and crosses.
The chapel is open on Good Friday mornings for prayers, on the Sunday following St. Anne?s Day (July 26) with a mass at 10 a.m. and on the Monday following St. Anne?s Day with a mass for the village?s deceased, and on Heritage Days on Saturday and Sunday from 2-6 p.m.
