Plaque commemorating the resistance fighters of Boulogne-sur-mer

This plaque commemorates the resistance fighters of Boulogne during the Second World War.

The plaque with the list of names of resistance fighters did not just happen. During a municipal council meeting on 11 September 1946, in closed session, the Resistance plaque that would be placed on the belfry during the Liberation commemorations was discussed.

Auguste Lengagne explains that the services of the (general) secretariat have investigated the resistance organizations in order to identify the names of the dead and missing in Boulogne. And Auguste Lengagne lists the list of surnames received, as well as the annotated comments.

If the first seven names do not give rise to any discussion, the debate is more heated for the following ones. Many necessary questions arise . Did the person live in Boulogne at the time of the war ? Did his resistance actions take place in Boulonnais ? Was she murdered for her resistance actions? But above all: do we have any proof or confirmation of these facts?

For each name, the research carried out provides more or less information and evidence, which leads Auguste Lengagne to say that this picture will certainly be incomplete and will be adjusted later as the files are compiled. And in fact, over the years, the list will be enriched with a few names to evoke today the memory of 27 resistance fighters from the Boulonnais.
