Doncaster is a minster town in South Yorkshire, England. Named after the River Don, it is the administrative centre of the larger Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster. It is the second largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield, with which the town shares the international Doncaster Sheffield Airport, 6 miles to the south-east. Founded by the Romans, Doncaster is a major regional town with important transport links and recreational sites. It is also a market town. At the 2021 census, the borough had a population of 308,100, while its built-up area had a population of 158,141 at the 2011 census.
