Pythagoras, mathematician and philosopher is born in Pythagoreio 580 BC. You can see the statue of Pythagoras in the harbour of Pythagoreio. Pythagoras is best known for the Pythagorean theorem, which bears his name and he is also known as "the father of numbers". Pythagoreio was formerly known as Tigani. The town was renamed in 1955 to honour the local-born mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras.
