The Serra mountain incident was an airplane disaster that occurred in Italy on March 3, 1977, involving a C-130H Hercules of the then 46th Air Brigade of the Italian Air Force, with 38 cadets from the Naval Academy of Livorno on board.
On Thursday, March 3, 1977, at 3:05 PM, the C-130H Hercules with the radio call sign Vega 10 took off from Pisa-San Giusto airport. The aircraft was carrying 38 cadets from the first class of the normal courses of the Naval Academy of Livorno, on board for a flight familiarization activity, an accompanying officer, and 5 crew members. About 5 minutes after takeoff, at 3:10 PM, the large aircraft crashed into the slopes of Serra mountain, in the Municipality of Calci, after making a left turn for reasons that have not been determined, leading it to enter the Serra valley, which turned out to be fatal under conditions of low altitude and poor visibility, as were present at the time.
