Chiesa Santa Elisabetta d'Ungeria - Barga - tuscany

The Church of Saint Elisabeth of Hungary is a sacred building in Barga, next to the Conservatory of the same name.

The monastery for the nuns of the Third Order of Saint Francis was founded in 1456 by Blessed Michele Turignoli of Barga. Half a century later, the construction of the church began, on the main altar of which, as the religious of the Franciscan monastery of Barga had done, a high relief altarpiece, in partly glazed terracotta, has been placed, depicting the Madonna of the Cintola, by Benedetto Buglioni (around 1510). In the 17th century, the church was enriched with wooden furniture, which has now been partially removed, such as the high altar, which has been replaced by a copy from the city's cathedral. Works include a Madonna and Child by Giovanni della Robbia (c. 1500-05) and a crucifix (mid-13th century), probably by a French master craftsman, and large canvases from the 17th century.
