The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is the parish church in Marlengo, in the autonomous province of Bolzano. It belongs to the Merano-Passiria deanery of the diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone and dates back to the 12th century.
The first mention of the place of worship in Marlengo can be found in historical documents dating back to 1166. Around the mid-13th century, the original building underwent significant renovation, and further works, which also involved an expansion, were carried out more than two centuries later, around 1480. On this last occasion, the bell tower was built, which has not survived as it was later destroyed by fire.
