The west facade, on Via Bonello , dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and is flanked by two Gothic towers.
It has a Gothic portal, with a precious 15th-century statue of the Madonna in a niche above it. Two pointed arched arcades span the street , connecting the cathedral with the bell tower , which is adjacent to the Archbishop's Palace.
The bronze relief panels of the central door are by the 20th century Filippo Sgarlata from Palermo. In symmetry and reflecting the axis of the entrance, there are four stone inscriptions surmounted by an equal number of niches.
