Nagele was established as a model village in the Noordoostpolder in the 1960s. It was intended as a settlement where agricultural workers could catch their breath. The remarkable thing about this village is that all the roofs are flat. The design of this village was created by the leading architects of the Netherlands from that period. With more than 30, it took them almost 10 years to conceive and sketch it out. From 1947 to 1956. The renowned Gerrit Rietveld took on a large part of the work, together with the other prominent figures of the movement "the New Building."
In the past, you were selected to live here. Inspectors would come to your home to see if you were neat and whether you had a criminal past.
Only in the 1990s did the houses receive the now tidy coat of paint.
Now the village is inhabited by immigrants and commuters, as well as some descendants of the original residents.
